NCP: New Caledonia and Wallis Futuna Program

UOW undergraduate students with an interest in French language and Culture, Public Health, have the opportunity to travel to New Caledonia and Islands of Wallis and Futuna in June 2024 with an Australian Government Grant of $4,500.

About the program

The interdisciplinary program will run from 15 June-30 June 2024 and will include activities at the University of New Caledonia (UNC), in and around Noumea, and on the island of Wallis & Futuna. The group will have a first week of language classes at UNC with afternoon activities visiting the Museum of New Caledonia, the spectacular Centre Culturel Tjibaou, the Aquarium etc and the Ministry of Health. The second week will involve participation in a collaborative research project collecting data in schools on the island of Wallis.

Funding options

This 6 credit point short-term study tour is supported through competitive Australian Commonwealth Government New Colombo Plan* Short-term mobility grants, each worth $4500. In addition, OS help loans are available for eligible students. Students studying majors in French, Public Health, International Studies, Law, Politics and/or International Relations are encouraged to apply.

*Restricted to Australian citizens.

Up to 16 UOW students will be selected for this short-term study tour, worth 6 credit points (specified). New Caledonia is a French-speaking territory; English is not widely spoken outside Noumea. It is expected that applicants for this program speak some French, and ideally, have an intermediate level in French.
