University Postgraduate Award (UPA)

Closing date: 3 October, each year.

University Postgraduate Awards (UPAs) are a stipend intended to cover some living expenses.

The UPA is for Doctoral and Master of Philosophy candidates only, and are only available at the University of Wollongong.

The University of Wollongong has a limited number of UPAs, which are allocated based on merit each year.

Scholarship amount

2025 stipend: $35,522 p.a., non-taxable for full-time candidates. Stipends are indexed annually

Duration

Three and a half (3.5) years full-time for Doctoral candidates and two (2) years for Masters of Philosophy.

Application process

To apply for a UPA, please follow the directions when you apply for your degree at UOW Apply Online. Successful students will be expected to commence their UPA in the Autumn session following application.

Students commencing Doctoral degrees and Master of Philosophy.
