Strong results across all subjects demonstrates commitment to excellence

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has performed strongly in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, released Thursday (26 October 2023).

UOW’s global rankings rose in six of the 11 subject categories: education, business and economics, psychology, social sciences, clinical and health, and computer sciences. The University also achieved impressive rankings in law, engineering and physical sciences.

For the first time, all subject areas at UOW were ranked in the top 300 globally, demonstrating the quality of the University’s teaching and research across all discipline areas. More than 1,900 of the world’s leading universities participated in the rankings.

UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Patricia M. Davidson said rankings help students choose the best university for their interests, while shining a light on academic excellence.

“The Times Higher Education Rankings by Subject highlight the strength of the University of Wollongong’s teaching and research across a broad range of subject areas,” Professor Davidson said.

“These results were built on improvements in our reputation scores, continued strong citation and research income performance, and our ongoing commitment to giving our students innovative, world-class teaching and learning experiences.

“They demonstrate the commitment and dedication of our staff across all parts of the University.”

UOW’s highest rankings came in law and engineering, which were in the top 125 worldwide, followed by education (top 150) and physical sciences (top 175).

The biggest improvement came in the subject of clinical and health, which ranked in the top 250 in the world, after being placed in the 401-500 band in the previous year’s rankings.

Other improvements came in business and economics (which ranked in the 176-200 band, up from 251-300 last year); education (126-150, up from the 151-175); psychology (201-250, up from 251-300); social sciences (201-250, up from 251-300); computer science (251-300, up from 301-400).
