Careers expo to help students gain an edge in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields

Annual event brings final-year students together with prospective employers

Students who are considering pursuing a career in STEM will have a valuable opportunity to meet prospective employers at the annual UOW STEM Careers Expo.

On Thursday (9 August), professionals from the fields of Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics will be on hand to discuss employment opportunities, answer questions, and help provide students with a roadmap to success.

All students are encouraged to attend the UOW STEM Careers Expo, hosted by UOW Careers Central, with close to 50 companies and organisations set to be represented during the event.

The expo will highlight the range of rewarding career opportunities that are available in the public and private sectors across a variety of industries.

In addition to information on graduate programs and entry-level roles, employers can also provide an insight into work experience, scholarships, internships, cadetships, and mentoring programs, which will be valuable to students at all levels of study.

Students can find out more about a prospective employer and make a good first impression before applying for a role.

Nuala O’Donnell, Director of Graduate Career Development and Employability, said the annual expo was a fantastic opportunity for students to put their best selves forward.

“In today’s tough employment market, students need to take advantage of every opportunity to meet with potential employers and show their skills and get noticed,” Ms O’Donnell said.

“This is a great chance to students to find out about the fields they are interested in and have a conversation with the decision makers at some of the country’s top organisations.”

As part of the event, UOW Careers Central will be holding on the spot resume reviews, where students can have their resume critiqued by employment experts.

There will also be a photo booth, where students can have a professional head shot taken for their LinkedIn profile.

Dress for Success, an organisation that provides corporate clothing for women in need, will be offering tips on how to dress for a job interview.

Last year more than 500 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics students attended the UOW STEM Careers Expo, gaining an edge over other prospective employees attempting to break into the market.
