Shelley Rae King scoops Executive PA of the Year Award

UOW's administrative talent shines through

Shelley Rae King, Executive PA in the Governance and Legal Division, has been awarded second place in this year’s Australasian Executive PA Awards, at a ceremony held in Sydney last Tuesday evening (28 November).

Shelley was one of only six finalists drawn from hundreds of nominations from across Australasia and received her trophy, flowers and raucous appreciation from the two tables of friends, family and colleagues who were cheering her on at the event.

Shelley was jointly nominated by a number of her colleagues across Legal Services, Governance and the Vice-Chancellor’s office, and Dr Nancy Huggett, Director, Governance and Legal Division, expressed the team's delight for Shelley.

“While we don’t need an award to tell us how fabulous Shelley is and what a huge contribution she makes to the division and the wider UOW community, it is excellent to see her efforts rewarded in such a prestigious and public way,” said Nancy.

“My heartfelt congratulations to Shelley on behalf of her Governance and Legal Division team mates, and her wider UOW colleagues. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Congratulations have been flowing in to Shelley from across the University and Shelley has been overwhelmed by both the internal and sector recognition.

“I was so humbled when I found out that my colleagues had nominated me, and even more humbled to be awarded second place by industry leaders. I’ve worked at UOW for 24 years and I’ve felt so supported throughout my career here," said Shelley.

"I’ve been able to access extensive training and professional development opportunities and my proudest moment was winning the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service in 2004. I was also given an Administrative Professionals Excellence Award (Highly Commended) by the Vice-Chancellor in 2015.

“I believe that my achievements are a reflection of the highly skilled, hard-working and professional colleagues that I work alongside in not only the Governance and Legal Division, but right across UOW,” Shelley added.

The Awards are the culmination of a year-long process of nominations and judging by peers and industry leaders. The Executive PA Awards are the oldest and most established awards for administration professionals and the only Executive Assistant and Personal Assistant awards that are run globally, accepting nominations from 121 countries.
