Graduate employability remains high at UOW
UOW above nation's average for graduate employment rates and employer partnerships.
For the third year in a row the University of Wollongong (UOW) has been ranked in the top 200 universities around the world for graduate employability outcomes.
A fresh round of data released today (Tuesday 12 September) by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), confirms UOW’s strong position in the graduate employment field.
The QS Graduate Employability Rankings, now in its third year, evaluates the links between university practices and graduate employability.
Each institution is scored on five indicators: employer reputation, alumni outcomes, partnerships with employers per faculty, employer/student connections and graduate employment rate.
When compared to other Australian universities, UOW scored above the nation’s average in the graduate employment rate and partnerships with employers categories. The University was rated number 73 in the world for graduate employment rates and number 167 for partnerships with employers.
The results also show that more than 87 per cent of UOW graduates are employed within six months of graduation, above the national average of 82 per cent.
UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings CBE, attributed the strong results to the University’s deep commitment to equipping graduates for the jobs of the future.
“These results confirm our longstanding ranking in graduate employability and reflect our enduring focus on helping our students achieve positive outcomes as graduates,” Professor Wellings said.
“Through our internship and placement programs UOW will continue to make our graduates highly sought after by employers.”
The rankings are determined based on survey responses from over 30,000 employers as well as mapping the degrees and affiliations of over 30,000 high-achievers, assessing 130,000 employers’ connections with graduates and evaluating more than 200,000 work placement partnerships.
In previous years the rankings analysed the data of 300 institutions and published a list of 200. For the 2018 rankings, the number of institutions assessed was doubled with the top 500 universities published.
The QS results come just weeks after UOW topped the 2018 Good Universities Guide in student experience, achieving a clean five star sweep of all student experience categories.
