Deputy Vice-Chancellor thanks staff during morning tea celebrations

Hard work and dedication recognised by Professor Chicharo. 

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Joe Chicharo recently hosted a morning tea to celebrate recent successes and recognise the hard work and dedication of members within his portfolio.

In August this year, the UOW Outreach and Pathways Team was as national finalists for outstanding work in facilitating access to university education for students from low socioeconomic, rural and remote and Indigenous backgrounds.

In early September UOW was a finalist in the in London. UOW was the sole university in NSW and one of five Australian universities to be shortlisted for the accolade.

A number of UOW staff were also earlier this year awarded Department of Education and Training (DET) Citations for outstanding contributions to student learning.

Citations were awarded to Associate Professor Shady Cosgrove, the Chemistry First Year Experience Team which comprised Glennys O’Brien and Simon Bedford, and the Recovery Camp Team comprising Professor Lorna Moxham, Christopher Patterson, Ellie Taylor, Dr Dana Perlman and Dr Renee Brighton.

Professor Chicharo praised the efforts of staff in ensuring the University continues its tradition of providing a great student experience.

“UOW’s efforts in this area are linked to its strategic goal of providing an exceptional learning and student experience by transforming what is taught and how it’s taught to maximise student success,” he said.

“I would like to personally extend my congratulations to all University staff for their hard work throughout 2017.”
