UOW vs WSU in annual sporting clash

Universities fight it out for coveted bragging rights at the second annual Intervarsity Sports Clash.

Kicking off a spectacular sports-orientated year, the second annual Intervarsity Sports Clash, organised by UOW Recreation and Aquatic Centre and Western's Sport Services, brings together students from UOW and Western Sydney University.

Held on Friday the 22nd of April, the event saw UOW host around 300 students who competed in a number of sports including soccer, basketball, hockey, oztag, touch football and netball.

The sporting experience was not only a chance for friendships to be made with other university teams, but also a great opportunity for trying out new sports and skills.

Jamie Hart, UOW Team Manager at the Recreation and Aquatic Centre said, sport can unify people from all backgrounds.

"Everyone is encouraged to mingle and meet new people, which is a great aspect of the games."

Although there was a mix of different sports on offer during the day, the standout was the mixed hockey match. In a nail-biter game UOW just managed to come out on top.

The event precedes another major sporting event at UOW this year. In July, UOW will host thousands of tertiary students for the Eastern University Games.

It will be the second time UOW has hosted the event, which will include a multitude of sports like, AFL, soccer, squash, tennis, Touch and Ultimate Frisbee over four sport packed days.
