New Colombo Plan Mobility Program success for UOW
Significant funding allows students to experience study opportunities in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Federal Government today announced significant funding of $683,000, which will allow 165 University of Wollongong students to experience study opportunities in the Indo-Pacific region undertaking 23 projects.
Students will have the opportunity to undertake projects in China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
When announcing the funding for the program’s 461 mobility projects in 2016, Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Julie Bishop, MP, praised Australian universities for: “continuing to provide strong support for New Columbo Plan mobility program and the opportunities it provides for Australian students”.
In the 2016 round the government has introduced multi−year funding for the first time for some projects in an effort to give universities greater certainty.
UOW’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Strategy), Professor Joe Chicharo, praised staff for their interest and efforts in supporting university students in an overseas study experience as part of their degree.
He said such funding opportunity directly supported UOW’s overall 2013-2018 Strategic Plan.
The New Colombo Plan 2016 mobility grants will be managed by UOW’s Office of Global Student Mobility.
