Professor Eeva Leinonen has been selected to become the new Vice-Chancellor of Murdoch University.

She is expected to take up her position in Perth, Western Australia, at the start of the 2016 academic year.

Professor Leinonen has held her current role at the University of Wollongong since 2012, having previously held the positions of Vice-Principal (Education) and Professor of Clinical Linguistics at King’s College London and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.

Following the announcement by Murdoch University, UOW Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings CBE praised Professor Leinonen on her achievements while at Wollongong and wished her well in her new role.

"In her three years with UOW, Eeva has built up a strong team focussed on the new Australian quality assurance framework," Vice-Chancellor Professor Wellings said.

"She has also worked closely with our Faculties to help transform our degree programs and use of modern technologies in order to keep the educational programs at UOW in the leading group of universities.

"We wish Eeva all the best in her new leadership role at Murdoch and thank her for making a massive contribution to the strategic direction of the University of Wollongong."
