Library staff volunteer at Illawarra Book Fair

UOW Library staff volunteered their time and skills at the Lifeline Book Fair last month for the third consecutive year.

This year, 5,200 customers walked through the Illawarra Sports Stadium’s doors to browse more than 80,000 donated books and helped $131,000 for Lifeline South Coast.

Money raised during the bi-annual book fair is the primary source of funds for the Lifeline South Coast in the Illawarra and South Coast regions. Funds will specifically be put toward supporting the 24 hour telephone crisis service (13 11 14), which receives more than 16,000 telephone calls.

UOW library staff brought their unique set of skills to the event to help patrons find what they are looking for using their broad but in-depth knowledge of book titles and subject areas and the classification system.
