Atmospheric aerosols are complex chemical systems present in minuscule volumes, making their analysis challenging. However, measuring their properties is critical, as air pollution contributes to 10% of global deaths annually and aerosols remain the most uncertain factor in climate change. The Ault Laboratory investigates aerosol chemistry through spectroscopy, microscopy, and mass spectrometry, developing novel analytical methods to provide molecular insights into their health and climate impacts.

Andrew Ault, an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan, earned his Ph.D. in analytical and atmospheric chemistry from UC San Diego. A Fulbright Scholar and Sloan Research Fellow, he has studied aerosols from urban to remote regions. His research is funded by major agencies, and he serves as vice president-elect of the American Association for Aerosol Research.
