In this seminar, Ali and Daniel will share their recent experience delivering a unique project funded by the Australia-Indonesia Institute, DFAT. The project produced two comic books, one featuring local folktales and the other celebrating scientific discoveries of the region. Ali and Daniel will discuss the challenges and triumphs of the project, showcase the comic books, and present one of the folktales.

The project takes place in Sulawesi, an Indonesian Island with a wild geological past, unique biodiversity, and rich cultural history. The tower karst of South Sulawesi forms part of the Maros Pangkep UNESCO Global Geopark, which includes over 3,000 km2 of land and sea. Maros Pangkep is a powerful setting for paleoclimate and archaeological research and is becoming increasingly renowned as a hotspot for early human migration, evolution, and cultural heritage.

This is a collaborative initiative between UOW, Invisible Ink Studio, the Maros Pangkep UNESCO Global Geopark, and the Indonesian Cultural Heritage Agency, aiming to foster bilateral collaboration in science communication, education, and conservation of the natural environment and cultural heritage.
