In honour of Tony Birch’s visit to the University of Wollongong, we will hear two papers on First Nations writing and hear from a respondent on each paper before general discussion. The topics of the papers traverse terrain from agency, land and the body in First Nations poetics and poetry to the role of water and “sea country” in the First Nations novel. The panel will synthesise key themes relevant to Dr Birch’s creative and academic work, from the construction of place to the question of the white gaze. This promises to be a rich panel.
