QILT rankings methodology

UOW’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) rankings use the most up-to-date data on the ComparED website to rank UOW against other universities in Australia. The ComparED data displays eleven indicators to measure a university’s performance in student satisfaction and graduate outcomes.

Currently, the indicators displayed on ComparED are:

  • Quality of overall educational experience – from the Student Experience Survey (2020 & 2021)
  • Teaching quality – from the Student Experience Survey (2020 & 2021)
  • Skills development – from the Student Experience Survey (2020 & 2021)
  • Learning resources – from the Student Experience Survey (2020 & 2021)
  • Student support – from the Student Experience Survey (2020 & 2021)
  • Overall satisfaction – from the Graduate Outcomes Survey (2021 & 2022)
  • Graduates in employment – from the Graduate Outcomes Survey (2020, 2021 & 2022)
  • Graduates in full-time employment – from the Graduate Outcomes Survey (2020, 2021 & 2022)
  • Graduates in full-time further study – from the Graduate Outcomes Survey (2020, 2021 & 2022)
  • Median graduate income – from ATO data (2017-18)

To bolster response counts and ensure indicators are robust to year-on-year shifts, ComparED pool multiple years of survey data before performing calculations.

UOW’s QILT ranking methodology uses ComparED data to rank institutions in Australia on each of the indicators. The institution with the highest score on each indicator is ranked 1st for that indicator. A single overall rank for each institution is then generated by taking the mean of all ranks across all indicators, and ranking the means, where the institution with the minimum mean rank is ranked 1st overall.

UOW’s QILT ranking methodology also ranks UOW against other institutions within study areas, using the same methodology described above.

ComparED will only display indicator scores where the indicator received more than 24 student or graduate responses across the pooled years, otherwise values are withheld. UOW only include institutions and study areas in the ranking where ComparED has published a value for each of the eleven indicators.
