National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
NHMRC funding supports research across the full spectrum of health and medical research, from basic science through to clinical, public health and health services research.
All NHMRC grant submissions must go via UOW’s Research Services Office (RSO).
Sapphire is the new web-based grants management system used for submission (RGMS has now approached the end of its useful life). If you have an existing RGMS account you can activate your own Sapphire account. If you do not have an RGMS Profile you will need to register for an account. See the Sapphire landing page for information on account access.
NHMRC funding opportunities can be viewed by date on the NHMRC Funding Calendar, or grants and all related documents can be viewed via GrantConnect, the Australian Government’s central grants information portal which provides access to opportunities and documentation on Commonwealth grant schemes.
Grants program
The NHMRC introduced a new grants program, with the first round of funding commencing from 2020. Further information can be found on the NHMRC Website, and RSO presentations on the following new schemes can be found on the RSO intranet:
- Investigator grants
- Ideas grants
- Synergy Grants
Grants held under NHMRC's previous and new grant schemes may impact on eligibility under the new grant program. Any questions should be directed to the RSO via rao-uow@uow.edu.au
Strategic and leveraging grants stream
This stream includes schemes that address strategic and national priorities and support leveraged funding. This includes: targeted calls for research, clinical trials and cohort studies, international collaborative grants, and other strategic initiatives. Strategic and leveraging grants do not affect eligibility for grants under the new grants program.
