Commerce students win SIFE award

Commerce students award for projects on improving the quality of life and standard of living for thousands of communities around the world

The UOW Commerce SIFE (Student In Free Enterprise) team competed against dozens of SIFE university student teams from across Australia at the National SIFE Conference earlier this month in Melbourne. The team took home the SIFE Spirit Award, which is awarded to teams that show great cohesion and engagement in the spirit of SIFE.

“Despite being knocked out in the first round of judging, SIFE UOW's charisma was able to shine through which secured us the SIFE Spirit Award,” said Marc Bowditch, Commerce SIFE Marketing and Public Relations Executive.

“The calibre of philanthropic projects that were presented was truly inspiring” said Marc.

Teams presented projects that focused on improving the quality of life and standard of living for thousands of communities around the world. The Commerce SIFE team’s projects included an eco-friendly light made of recycled water bottles to give light to thousands of disadvantaged people in Indonesia and a financial literacy program for years 7 and 8 high school students.

“Our presentation went extremely well and we couldn’t be any prouder of the UOW team and all their efforts that went into creating the presentation,” said Marc.

When asked what is next for the UOW SIFE team, Marc said “I believe it is safe to say that I can speak for the entire UOW team in saying that the conference has re-sparked our passion to get involved and assist others through further developing our own projects.”

The team are recruiting UOW students who want to make a difference in people’s lives. If you are interested, please email sife.uow@gmail.com.
