Synopsis
Set in a writer’s room, Antipodes is a surreal, hilarious pitch session, a hero’s quest for the perfect story. Sipping on La Croix as they brainstorm anything from the very personal to the mythic, the team of ambitious creatives give everything they’ve got in an extended riff on the human need for stories. Meanwhile, the world outside collapses and the project is put in jeopardy, as the whole creative enterprise of storytelling is brought into question.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker (The Flick) has crafted a complex, epic piece of theatre that is funny and dark in equal measure. Her sharp observations of the creative process and workplace power dynamics, overlay critiques of patriarchy, late capitalism and the grand narratives that perpetuate them.
