Tony Vinson Memorial Lecture

The Tony Vinson Memorial lecture celebrates the seminal contributions and achievements of Tony Vinson in criminal justice and the social sciences over more than five decades. Tony Vinson (AM) was regarded as one of Australia’s leading social scientists and public intellectuals. His long career spanned a range of important research, from prison reform, judicial accountability, community development and social disadvantage. In 2008, he was appointed a Member for the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours for his services to social welfare.

The 2021 event will feature Professor Eileen Baldry (UNSW) and Professor Ross Homel (Griffith University) in conversation reflecting on the legacy of Tony Vinson’s career focusing on understanding and addressing disadvantage. Professors Baldry and Homel will explore the distribution of disadvantage and discuss a way towards a better understanding of the nature and persistence of structural disadvantage.
