Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a complex problem that affects all of society.

It occurs when microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites become resistant to medications that are used to kill them, such as antibiotics, making these life-saving drugs ineffective.

In 2017, the Australian Department of Health described AMR as one of the biggest threats to human and animal health and it only continues to be a threat today.

Everybody can play a role in helping society win the fight against AMR, from the food we eat and how it's farmed, through to combatting the overuse of antibiotics in our health-care system.
