Overview

This is a course for health professionals including Nurses, Midwives, Allied Health and Medical Practitioners.

It provides opportunities to:

• Understand and practice the skills of effective leadership.

• Explore the skills of the effective manager.

• Enhance skills of reflection.

• Discover the value of coaching skills in healthcare practice.

On completion of this course, health professionals will feel confident about their contribution to the challenges they are presented with in their clinical practice and be able to facilitate change through leadership.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

All applicants must have a recognised Bachelor's Degree in a health discipline OR equivalent.

International students are required to have achieved a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a level of at least 6 in all bands of reading and writing, speaking and listening.

Course Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership and Management course is comprised of 24 credit points of subjects, and from 2008 can be taken as a one session full-time enrolment or 1 year part-time.

Credit Towards Other Courses

Students who enrol initially in Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership and Management and maintain an average mark of 60 throughout the program will be eligible to progress to the Master of Health Leadership and Management. Candidates for the Masters will then complete a further 24 credit points of subjects based on other graduate certificate programs offered in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, the Graduate School of Business, or the Faculty of Informatics.

The Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership and Management may also articulate with the Master of Nursing, Master of Nursing (Mental Health) and the Master of Health Management. Please consult the Program Coordinator for information about these options.
