August_ The two of us: Duane Robinson and Brendan Banfield

PhD Candidate Brendan Banfield is passionate about renewable energy and sustainability. His research is investigating how smart technologies in buildings can be used to reduce electricity costs and increase thermal comfort. His supervisor is Duane Robinson who was appointed Deputy Director of the SRBC in 2015, and more recently Director of the APQRC in 2020.

Industry 4.0 update

Industry 4.0, also known as the “fourth Industrial Revolution”, is a new wave of innovation centred on automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. The federal government pledged $2 million for an industry hub managed by the University of Wollongong (UOW) in the Shoalhaven. This article give a quick update on their activities.

July_ The two of us: Natalia Hanley and Helen Simpson

Helen Simpson is a PhD candidate, researcher & sessional teacher at UOW and is currently completing her PhD research focusing on the evaluation of Domestic Violence Evidence-in-Chief. Her supervisor Natalia Hanley is a qualitative researcher interested in how people experience the institutions and processes of criminal justice.

Prioritising Emerging Research Leaders

UOW recently announced 28 research fellows as part of its Prioritising Emerging Research Leaders (PERL) Fellowship Scheme. The Fellowships, supported by $5 million from a Federal Government research support program initiative were available to academics and designed to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on Australia’s research workforce, initiatives and activities. We speak to four recipients.
