Your guide to the new UOW Liverpool campus

New year. New campus.

With classes kicking off inside Liverpool Civic Place, students are excited for what’s to come.

The Liverpool area is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia, and the University of Wollongong (UOW) is growing too. In 2025, we said goodbye to UOW Liverpool’s Moore Street campus and got ready for an exciting new era at the Civic Place precinct.

We asked UOW Liverpool students how they feel about the new campus and for their tips on what to eat, drink and do in Liverpool.

What is Liverpool Civic Place?

The mixed-use precinct breathed new life into the southern end of the Liverpool CBD when stage one of the development opened in April 2025. As well as UOW Liverpool, it includes the new Yellamundie Library and Art Gallery, Council offices and Council Chambers, and a new civic plaza. Stage two of the development is currently in construction and is set to deliver another 11 storeys of university space by the end of 2028.

Getting there

UOW Liverpool is located within the Civic Place precinct at 50 Scott Street, Liverpool. The campus is just five minutes’ walk from Liverpool Station, which is serviced by several train lines and buses, with many buses stopping right outside on Scott Street.

Liverpool City Council operates a free community shuttle bus morning and afternoon, Monday to Friday, which can take you to UOW Liverpool. The shuttle travels between Liverpool City, the Whitlam Centre and Collimore Park – where students receive free all-day parking.

You can access UOW Liverpool’s five floors of the Liverpool Civic Tower via lifts on the mezzanine level, behind the AskUOW help desks.

Campus facilities

Across levels 1-3 and 5-6, the new campus has everything you need to make the most of your degree including state-of-the-art cyber security labs, nursing labs, chem bio labs, nutrition labs, recreation spaces, quiet study areas and prayer rooms.

There are lots of spots to study and socialise, or head to level 6 to find the massive light-filled student kitchen and lunch area, complete with sweeping views.

The same friendly staff and support services that students would be used to are on hand to help you find anything you need.

"The staff are very cooperative here," says third-year student Dhruv. "It doesn't matter what kind of problem you are having, they're always ready to help you."

First impressions

"My first impression of the new campus is that it's really nice," says Sejal, a third-year nursing student. "I really like the vibes here."

Another nursing student, Therese, agrees. "I think it's very fresh, very relaxing, makes me want to study here beyond my third and final year."

"Look at this new and beautiful campus, it makes me want to go to uni every day. It looks so modern and welcoming and it has a lot of space that will be good for studying or doing group projects with my friends, which is very good." - Vivian, Computer Science

"I like how modern it looks and how big it is," says Isabella, who is studying a Bachelor of Primary Education. "I always liked being around the uni, I find it's better to be in the environment where you want to learn. With the new campus, there's even more room for everyone to study now."

The location

For many UOW Liverpool students, the appeal of studying close to home isn't lessened with the new location, which is close enough to the old campus to easily visit all your go-to spots in town. The students we spoke to are excited about being closer to their favourite eateries - El Jannah and Thai Me.

When it comes to coffee and snacks, it's hard to resist Mio Espresso Café right inside the entrance of the building (which you can see from UOW's mezzanine) or baklava from SeaSweet Patisserie on your walk back across the road from El Jannah.

Thankfully, it's still less than a 10-minute walk to Westfield Liverpool. "I don't drink coffee," says Vivian. "But for milk tea, I suggest Cha Bar at Westfield."

"You're spoiled for choice around here for restaurants," says Therese.

When it comes to hanging out after class, you don't need to stray far. As well as the many spaces inside campus, there's shade and grass outside the building, and six levels of Yellamundie Library and Gallery to explore.

"I honestly love it here," says Sandy, who is about to start her Bachelor of Nursing after completing a Diploma of Nursing through UOW College. "There's so much more space where we can meet new friends after lectures and lots of places to hang out."
