AI-ready Graduates

"Innovators move fast. Adapters get left behind"

With 30 years in computing across the Government of Gujarat, Northeastern University (USA) and UOW India, Professor Kiran Trivedi is preparing students to become AI- and data-ready professionals. Based in GIFT City, his focus is simple: ensuring graduates can solve real-world business problems from day one.

What do you teach at UOW India?

“I teach AI,  object-oriented programming and Data Mining. Both are the foundation for anyone building a career in AI, data science or data analytics. My focus is always the fundamentals: understand the logic, and the tools will follow.”

Where do your students go after UOW India?

“Right onto our doorstep. GIFT City has more than 1,700 companies in finance, FinTech and technology: global names like Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant are in the same tower as us. In my last group of six students, five are already in internships or live industry capstone projects, from a government research institute to a pharma-tech company.”

Students work on live industry problems, not just textbook exercises. Professor Kiran Trivedi

How do you connect classroom learning to real industry?

“Through work-integrated learning. Our partner companies bring us real problem statements, and students solve them directly in their capstone projects. Two of my students are working with a government research institute on satellite imagery; others are building a generative-AI reporting system with an industry partner. They’re not studying the industry, they’re contributing to it.”

Can you share a project that mirrors real industry work?

“My FinTech students built an AI-enabled finance manager that tracks your transactions, anticipates your premiums, and tells you when to save. Another team took 20 years of Seattle emergency-call data and uncovered why one neighbourhood kept triggering false fire alarms, a pattern even the local authorities had missed. That’s the moment students realise data can solve almost anything.”

What skill will students use from day one?

“Coding fundamentals, written by hand, without leaning on AI to learn them. And then AI and data literacy. The World Economic Forum says that by 2030 everyone - whatever their field - will need it. We make sure our students already have it.”

What’s your advice to parents?

"A university gives your child the qualification. But it's skills that build the career: strong communication, a visible presence online, and the confidence to share their work and be seen”
