Course Description

A professional (pre-service) course in education for those seeking secondary teaching qualifications (Years 7-12). Students undertake method subjects relating to their undergraduate major. Method subjects are those in which students explore in detail the subject areas they will be teaching in schools, and look at methods of presentation particular to their own subjects. The program includes lectures, seminars, tutorials, individual assignments, and 11 weeks of full time professional experience in schools. Teaching methods, practice teaching and material preparation are provided in co-operation with local schools.

Admission to the program is on the basis of academic merit, demonstrated interest in education and suitability of the undergraduate degree to teaching requirements. The Graduate Diploma is recognised by employing authorities in all states other than Queensland, where an additional bridging course is required.
