Overview

The Bachelor of Journalism - Bachelor of Science double degree recognises the value of scientific discoveries to society and the important role the media performs in highlighting and explaining the significance of those discoveries or developments. The decision to offer a double degree with Science also acknowledges that there are employment opportunities in the mainstream media for people who have skills in scientific disciplines. Finally, it acknowledges that scientists may be looking to improve their writing and presentation skills so that they can more effectively present their research in specialist and generalist publications.

Credit Transfer

The Faculty offers credit transfers to students who have successfully completed relevant courses at accredited universities and colleges. Students seeking credit transfer are advised to contact the Faculty or UniAdvice for further details and refer to the General Course Rules.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Journalism - Bachelor of Science, students must complete a minimum of 216 credit points (cp) comprised of the following:

1. 108cp of Journalism subjects which includes:

- 72cp of core Bachelor of Journalism subjects

- 36cp of Journalism electives chosen from 200 level and 300 level options

2. Complete a major in the Bachelor of Science. For more information, please refer to the Course Handbook.

3. Where necessary, elective subjects to bring the total number of credit points completed to 216

Students may be required to complete more than 216 credit points, depending on the Bachelor of Science major they choose to study.

Students must consult academic advisors in all relevant faculties concerning the selection of appropriate subjects.

No more than 90 credit points at 100 level can be counted towards the Bachelor of Journalism - Bachelor or Science degree. Students must achieve a clear pass in the core 300 level subjects to be eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Journalism - Bachelor of Science.
