Higher Degree Research (HDR) and Honours Opportunities
Welcome to the UOW Higher Degree Research and Honours Opportunities website. This site allows immediate access to research opportunities currently available within the University's Strengths, Networks, Initiatives and Clusters.
Some of our current research programs include exploring alternative treatments for cancer; improving the interface of cochlear implants with a hearing-impaired person's neural system; researching a new type of plant capable of 'eating up' arsenic from polluted soils; and developing a solar-powered water purifier to provide drinkable water for communities in water-poor communities.
Kara Perrow recently completed her PhD in the area of Anti-Cancer Drug Design and Development and is now continuing the preclinical phase of the project in the School of Biological Sciences as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This project aims to develop a new generation of novel targeted cancer therapeutics based on toxins coupled to a delivery agent that selectively identifies and targets a critical marker of malignancy. It is anticipated that this strategy will deliver the novel toxins to tumours and concentrate it within these cells - minimising toxicity and side effects. Recently, Kara has taken up an academic lecturing position in the School of Biological Sciences.
