Withheld result for a subject
A withheld result for a subject may be granted as follows:
| WH |
for medical, compassionate or investigative grounds, or where there are unavoidable delays in assessing the material |
| WHE |
for when an extension for the non-declaration of results, including a reason, has been approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) |
Where a WH or ND result is allocated these results must be declared 10 weeks after the release of result date. If an extension after this 10 week period is required, each Dean must submit a request for a 4 week extension. Failure to request an extension will result in an automatic fail grade being given after the 10 week period.
Where a WH or ND result is granted, it is your responsibility to contact the relevant academic unit as soon as practical. Failure to do so may result in an automatic fail grade being determined after 10 weeks from the release of results.
If you have a WH result at the time of results release, the result will normally become available within a few days. We suggest that you check the web every couple of days, and contact your lecturer if the delay is longer. We will not contact you when the result becomes available due to the large number of results that can be delayed by a few days.
Withheld results for a course
There are a number of reasons why all your results may be withheld:
You will know that your results have been withheld if they are entirely blocked from view in SOLS or the results for each of your subjects show as 'WITHHELD'.
Querying or appealing results
If you wish to query your results you should take the following steps:
-
Raise the matter informally with the lecturer or subject coordinator
-
If you are still dissatisfied with the results after having discussed it with your lecturer or subject coordinator, you should discuss it with the Head of the relevant academic unit.
-
If, after discussion, you remain dissatisfied, you may wish to formally appeal the result by submitting an outline of the reasons for your appeal in writing, to the person or committee specified by your Faculty (eg Head of School, Program Administrator, Sub Dean, Associate Dean, Dean). You must lodge your appeal within ten (10) working days of the publication of the result.
-
Where the matter remains unresolved after you have followed these steps, you may refer the matter, in writing, to the Dean of Students within ten (10) working days of receiving a response from the last person involved at the Faculty stage of the process.
For further information see the Academic Grievance Policy and the Assessment Rules.
Supplementary exams
If you have been registered to sit a supplementary exam you will generally have your final subject results for the relevant subjects withheld, showing the code 'WH' - Withheld.
Subject results will be withheld until the subject coordinator has completed marking the supplementary exam papers and submitted the new mark and grade for release. Please note that there is no official release date for supplementary results. The result release process for supplementary exams can take up to three weeks after the supplementary exam period. Once the process is complete the new mark and grade will be available on SOLS. If you are concerned that there has been a delay beyond three weeks, you should contact your subject coordinator in the first instance. Student Central can also assist with enquiries regarding release of subject results.

For more information see the Course Progress Policy.
Documentation
You are able to print a copy of your enrolment record via the Enrolment Print option on SOLS.
An academic transcript provides a listing of all courses and subjects undertaken at the University, and includes details of final grades, degrees awarded and prizes achieved. Two free copies are provided with your testamur when you graduate. You may also purchase an academic transcript at any time during your studies. For more information please see Student Forms and Documents.
The testamur is the official degree certificate and bears the University seal. It lists the name of the degree or award obtained. The testamur is conferred at the graduation ceremony, or can be mailed to you if you do not attend the ceremony. You may purchase a replacement testamur where the original has been lost, damaged or stolen, or if you have changed your name. For more information please see Student Forms and Documents.
