IMPORTANT PERSONAL SAFETY INFORMATION

Assault & Robbery incidents

Wollongong Police have requested that students be informed about a recent spate of incidents occurring since last Friday evening and Monday afternoon (SEPT 1 & 4). These incidents have occurred near campus and within the Gwynneville area.

These incidents have occurred in the mid to late afternoon and after dark.

Students at all times are encouraged not to walk alone, but walk with a friend or in a group of two or more or to use the Campus Shuttle Service between North Wollongong Railway Station and campus.

At dusk and after dark Students walking to vehicles within the local street network, in the vicinity of campus can contact UOW Security for a safety escort.

Students should report anything suspicious or anything that they believe warrants investigation by UOW Security & Police. If you see someone in trouble telephone UOW Security on 4221 4900 or telephone 000 and ask for the Police.

Students are encouraged NOT TO:
•carry large amounts of cash
•carry any valuable property

AND to limit valuables they carry to those items of necessity

If you are the victim of a robbery incident:
•do not place yourself or others in danger
•if you are not able to get away, you should avoid serious injury by handing over what is requested of you
•as soon as the offender leaves get help and report what has happened to Security & Police
•where practical note the direction the offender flees in and a description of the offender.

STOP. PLAN. THINK.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Be street wise.

Note: UOW Security Officers may approach students who they believe are vulnerable and provide safety advice. UOW Security Officers may be operating in plainclothes on and off campus to monitor personal safety and will identify themselves to staff or students with their photographic NSW security licence and their University Authorised Person identity card, should they need to talk to you.
