Using AND to join the main keywords from your topic will help you to find relevant articles.

This search finds articles that contain the words mobile phones as well as consumers in every article. If an article contains both of these keywords it is more likely to be useful for researching this topic.

OR

Authors may use different words to describe similar ideas or concepts. They may also use synonyms (words with similar meaning). For example an article about mobile phones might contain the words mobile phones, cell phones or cellular phones.

Using OR to join alternative keywords such as synonyms will help you to find articles which may not contain the exact keyword from your topic but are on the same subject.
