Fees

What will it cost?

2009 International Tuition Fees

2010 International Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are paid one session at a time. The offer letter states the total tuition fee payable provided you accept the offer and commencement date.

Students who undertake to earn credit points in addition to the normal full-time load of 24 credit points per session will be required to pay extra fees for that session at the equivalent rate per extra credit point.

The university’s Tuition Fee Policy contains detailed information on payment requirements, including refund policy.

Other Costs

In addition to tuition fees, a single student living in Wollongong will require at least $12,000 a year – depending on their lifestyle – to cover accommodation, food and local transport.

University (self-catered)   $6000 (plus at least $2500 food)
Private accommodation $4000-$6000 (plus $2500 food)
Other
Books, stationery, study materials $500
Personal expenses (transport, entertainment etc) $3000
Overseas Student Health Cover (compulsory) $345

What is Overseas Student Health Cover?

The Australian Government requires that all international students on student visas have health insurance through the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme for the duration of their student visa. OSHC provides medical and hospital cover for students and their dependants, excluding dental, optical and physiotherapy services or treatment of conditions existing prior to arrival in Australia. It is not general travel insurance, and will not cover the loss of personal items (eg camera, laptop).

OSHC must be purchased when accepting an offer of admission – the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (required for student visa application) cannot be issued until payment is received. The fee is included in the total amount payable on the Offer Acceptance and Payment Advice form.

UOW is required to provide an OSHC provider for the first 12 months of study, however students may also choose their own provider:

  • Australian Health Management (UOW provider)
  • Medibank Private
  • Worldcare Assist
  • BUPA
Costs Single Family
Up to 3 months $86.25 $172.50
Up to 6 months $172.50 $345
Up to 9 months $258.75 $517.50
Up to 12 months $345 $690

*These fees may change any time without notice

UOW sends membership cards to students in the first few weeks of study. Students must keep their address up to date with the university and the OSHC provider.

Students from Sweden and Norway are exempt from this rule if they can provide proof of official health insurance cover from their home government provider.
