Alisa Percy

BA, DipEd. MEd, PhD in progress

Lecturer
Learning Development
University of Wollongong

As a Learning Development lecturer at the University of Wollongong for the past 8 years, Alisa has worked to enhance student learning and academic literacy across campus, working directly with both undergraduate and postgraduate students to assist them in their negotiation of the learning and literacy demands of their disciplines.

Through her collaboration with faculty staff and faculty working groups, particularly in the Faculty of Commerce, she has been instrumental in integrating academic literacy instruction into the core subjects of the Bachelor of Commerce, in providing quality reviews of teaching and learning in subjects with significantly high failure rates, and consulting with faculty on quality improvements as they relate to student learning and literacy development.

She has presented and published a number of papers and is currently enrolled in a PhD. Her research critically engages with the unstable notion of ‘learning advising’ as it relates to particular student identities that reflect broader social, political and economic rationalities. On a more practical level, her other research relates to the theory, practice and evaluation of her work across campus.

She has also contributed to a number of teaching and learning committees, including the Assessment – Best Practice Working Party of the UEC and the Language and International Student Support Committee of the UIC. She has been involved in a number of teaching and learning projects, as a result of successful grant applications, and is actively engaged in the NSW Tertiary Education Language and Learning Special Interest Group.
