3. Finding Journal Articles

What is a Journal?

Journals are an essential source of academic information and contain the published results of research and developments in theoretical and applied knowledge. Journals are the fastest way for new information to be made available. Refer to them to obtain the most current research in your field of study.

The UOW Library has over 50,000 journal titles containing millions of journal articles.

Activity

Identifying Journal Articles on Reading Lists

Watch the movie showing what a journal is and how to identify journal articles on Reading Lists.

It is important to learn how to distinguish between journal titles and journal articles so you can:

  1. search for a journal article in the Library (coming up later in this guide)
  2. include the reference in your reference list

Activity

Look at the reference below and answer the following questions:

Pirie, G 2008, ‘Tourism and climate change mitigation: Methods, greenhouse gas reductions and policies’, Journal of Transport Geography, vol.16, no. 3, pp229-230.

True OR False:

Tourism and climate change mitigation is the journal title True False
Journal of Transport Geography is the article title True False
The year (2008) tells me this is a journal article True False
