Information for International First Year Students
Your first year studying in a foreign country can be difficult. This part of the site aims to help first year international students adjust to their new environment and ensure their experiences at UOW are positive ones.
Resources
- Student Central: visit for student administration enquiries or to see the wide range of services provided
- Welcome to Wollongong (W2W): making international students feel welcome in the Illawarra
- Accommodation Services: the place to start for accommodation enquiries. Find a place to live or get answers to frequently asked questions
- Clubs and Societies: there are some clubs and societies for students of particular nationalities or religious beliefs
- ICIS (Illawarra Committee for International Students): a community group for International students that organises bus trips, dinners and other social and cultural events
- Student Support Advisers (SSA): offer assistance to students with regard to welfare, financial grants and liaise with disability services, counselling services, learning development, careers service, etc.. SSAs assist international students with questions which might arise in adapting to life in a foreign culture. They can provide information on a wide range of issues including personal and financial matters, academic concerns, legal issues, accidents, family worries or emergencies. The guide to Living and Studying in Australia on the SEDLOs web page is a useful resource covering a wide range of issues.
- Learning Development: workshops to develop written and spoken English skills, as well as exam skills and avoiding plagiarism.
- Library: visit the library online or in person to check out the range of resources and support available to international students.
- Orientation Information: information about international student orientation, work, visas, travel and much more!
- PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions): Academic mentoring program which provides free academic assistance to first year students in subject specific sessions led by a senior student who has excelled in the subject.
- WUSA (Wollongong Undergraduate Students' Association): an organisation that represents all students and their interests and holds many social events on campus.
- WUPA (Wollongong University Postgraduate Association): an organisation that specifically cares for the interests of postgraduate students at UOW.

EdStart 2010
EdStart provides grants for undergraduate domestic students at UOW. An EdStart grant is not a cash award. Students who are awarded EdStart will be given a $500 grant that they can use to purchase goods and services from the University of Wollongong and the UniShop. Apply online
