Students from Equity GroupsThe UoW strives to promote equality of student outcomes by recognising that disadvantage creates barriers to success. A number of different groups of students, referred to as equity student groups, have been acknowledged as having specific barriers that can at times, make it more difficult to succeed in their University studies and have a satisfying University experience. Some of these groups include:
- Indigenous students
- students from a low socio economic background
- students for whom English is not a first language
- students with a disability
- female students in non-traditional areas (e.g. engineering)
- students with carer responsibilities
- students from rural and isolated areas
Throughout the year the different SEDLOs will implement different programs to help support these groups of students as well as offering a personal support and referral service. If you are finding it difficult to manage you studies and other responsibilities come and speak with your SEDLO to find out what support is available to you.
