Volunteering with ISP
A student that is new to Australia can often feel isolated, anxious and unsure about how to best adapt to a new culture. As an volunteer, you will share your knowledge and experiences with fellow students. It’s a great opportunity to make friends, make professional contacts, help others and to settle down to the new environment. You can also opt to be an ICIS member and be involved in organising such events for other international students. Not only is volunteering fun, it may also prove to be beneficial for you! For details, contact the International Student Coordinator at emmamat@uow.edu.au
ICIS Volunteer Pool
ICIS maintains a pool of volunteers who assist the committee with the many events that it organises. You could assist the committee members by helping them with catering, by being a trip leader or a bushwalk leader, by managing the information booth during Orientation Week and Enrolment Days or by assisting with any of the other social programs that are organised by ICIS.
English Conversation Group Leader
International students new to Australia are often uncomfortable speaking English and we've found having people on hand who are native English speakers really helps them develop these skills. The English Conversation Group is an informal gathering where students, staff and community members can have a chat with international students over tea or coffee. These Conversation groups usually take place twice a week in session, on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm to 5.30pm and on Fridays from 10am to 12pm. It helps if you can notify us in advance if you can't make it on a particular week.
General volunteering
ISP always needs friendly faces to promote our services - whether it's working on a stall during student orientation or other events throughout the year, helping out with food preparation for our events or putting up posters around campus, we could always do with some help!
Time Commitment: As much or as little as you like. there's always something to do!
