ICIS – Overview and Committee Member Duties

International student committee members and local committee members have a shared responsibility for managing ICIS and its objectives. The international student committee members are able to make significant contributions because of their knowledge of what support international students would like ICIS to offer.

The duties for international student and community committee members are similar and listed below.

International Student Committee Member

  • Attend and contribute ideas at the ICIS committee meetings and provide any feedback received from fellow students to the committee.
  • Support and contribute to activities coordinated by ICIS.
  • Interact with international students within the University community as well as other committee members and the International Student Coordinator.

Community Committee Member.

  • Attend and contribute ideas at the ICIS committee meetings.
  • Support and contribute to activities coordinated by ICIS.
  • Interact with international students within the University community as well as other committee members and International Student Coordinator.

Positions:

  • A Chairperson.
  • A Vice Chairperson who is elected from the Community Committee Members.
  • A Vice Chairperson who is elected from the international student committee members.
  • The position of Secretary and any other positions are elected from any member of the committee.
  • The Treasurers position is managed by the coordinator.
  • Committee members.

Annual General Meeting.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held each year to allow a report on the years activities to be made and for a new committee to be elected. Committee members are eligible for reelection.

 

General Information.

ICIS has been operating for 25 Years to support international students while they are attending the University of Wollongong.

The major programs developed by ICIS were the English Conversation Groups, International Friendship Program and Low Cost Trips which are managed by the coordinator with the committee providing advice and support.

Committee members also coordinate other activities including a community engagement program where international students are provided with an opportunity to speak to a club or group. They are always happy to consider new activities which can be managed with available resources.

 

Mission Statement

The Illawarra Committee for International Students (ICIS) is a non political, non sectarian organization which values equality.

 It exists to offer support services to international students and their families while they are studying at the University of Wollongong.
