South Coast Bush Walkers Members:
Paul, Kay, Christine, Kevin, Jocelyn and Ted

All the ICIS members met Jocelyn on the early morning train to Waterfall and name tags were made. A heavy rain downpour on arrival at Waterfall was a concern as most people didn’t have rain gear (an oversight from the organiser with the “To Bring” list!). Fortunately the shower passed in about 15 minutes and we met up the SCBW members and set off to the start of the track.

Paul talked about the Bush walkers’ Code and gave everyone a copy. Ted informed people of the history of Heathcote National Park and the route for the walk. Then we set off on our adventure. Kingfisher Pool was admired but we walked for a further 15 minutes to Crystal Pool which was a short distance off the track. It is usually a crystal clear pool with a waterfall but the present low water levels meant it was not at its best. However, it was a good spot for a rest and morning tea.
The walk to Miara Pool involved some climbing but good views were the reward. Even experienced bush walkers can take the wrong track! So there was a re-grouping and counting of heads needed to ensure we had everyone.
The day had warmed up so the first priority on arrival at Miara Pool was a most refreshing swim! Then lunch at the camp fire while Ted got coals for walkers to make twisters (thin strips of dough wrapped around a stick and cooked over the fire and eaten with lots of drippy honey)! The billy tea was most appreciated by Addas!

The last section of the walk along the fire trail had to be at a faster pace so we could catch the 4.08 train from Heathcote! Fortunately the majority made it! There were some tired walkers but all joined in the spirit of the day and would have slept well that night.

Thanks to all ICIS members and SCBW walkers for a great intercultural sharing day. More bushwalks will be planned for 2010.
