What is the National Code 2007?

The National Code 2007 is a part of the legal framework governing how education is to be provided to international students. This new Code aims to ensure that international students coming to Australia are provided with a very high standard of education.

National Code 2007 requires the University to be clear and transparent in:

  • the marketing and offering of our courses
  • our policies and procedures relating to international students
  • the delivering of support services to students
  • the facilities we provide

National Code 2007 also requires the University to ensure that students are meeting their obligations under their student visa. There are new regulations governing:

  • students completing their course within the expected duration
  • monitoring course progress
  • course credit or advanced standing
  • the deferral, suspension or cancellation (any type of termination) of a student’s enrolment

National Code sets out minimum standards for Australian Education Providers in the following areas:

  • Marketing information practices (Standard 1)
  • Student engagement before enrolment (Standard 2)
  • Formalisation of enrolment (Standard 3)
  • Education agents (Standard 4)
  • Younger students (Standard 5)
  • Student Support Services (Standard 6)
  • Transfer between registered providers (Standard 7)
  • Complaints and Appeals (Standard 8)
  • Completion within the expected duration of study (Standard 9)
