Anthony DeAngelis received a Bachelor of Commerce at the first
graduation ceremony of the week on Monday 17 December. He is pictured with

Dr Balakrishnan Parasuraman travelled from Sabah, Malaysia with his
family to receive a PhD in Management. Dr Parasuraman is a senior lecturer
at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah. His thesis explored and analysed forms and
determinants of employee participation in Malaysia. Up until primary school,
Dr Parasuraman was unable to read or write. However his parents, who were
rubber tappers in the plantation sector, were determined to give their
children a good quality of life and after receiving a scholarship Dr
Parasuraman was granted his dream of studying in Australia. He is pictured
with his uncle Krishnan Manickam, wife Rusia Ginsu, child Hanna Malarvilli,
cousin Henry Gunong, child Isaac Dasan and brother Murugaiah.

A group of five Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology
Honours students graduated at the Monday afternoon ceremony and have all
landed top corporate graduate jobs at companies including Accenture,
Macquarie Bank, IBM, Ernst and Young and Theiss. The students were
supervised by Dr Katina Michael in the Faculty of Informatics who is an
expert in national security and 'überveillance' (exaggerated surveillance).
The graduates completed a range of interesting research projects on topics
such as e-passport security, chip implants and in-car GPS navigation
systems. Pictured (left to right) are Raymond Koppe, Dane Hamilton, Ben

Richard Irvine graduated with a Master of Science (Logistics) with
Distinction at the Monday afternoon ceremony. His mother Helen, who works in
the School of Accounting and Finance and is a UOW graduate, was able to
watch her son graduate from the prime position onstage as part of the
Academic Procession. His father Rod (right) is also a UOW graduate. In fact,
between his four siblings, parents and sister-in-law Richard's family have
racked up a total of 12 UOW degrees between them. Richard will continue his
work in logistics at BlueScope Steel.

Monday afternoon's Occasional Address was presented by Chief Financial
Officer for Yahoo!7, Mr Gregory Brown. Mr Brown is a UOW graduate and since
joining Yahoo!7 he has become a key part of integrating the existing Yahoo
business and the online digital media assets of the Seven Network. This
year, Mr Brown has been involved in establishing a new joint venture
involving Telecom NZ. He is pictured with the Chancellor, Mr Michael Codd
AC.
