Invitation to participate in December 2009 Graduation Academic Processions
NOTE: This site is for academic staff only. If you are a student graduating in the December Graduation ceremonies DO NOT complete this form. Please contact Student Central if you have any enquiries about your graduation.
The December 2009 Graduation Ceremonies will be held from 14-18 December. There will be 11 ceremonies over the five days. Each day will comprise a morning and an afternoon ceremony (except for Friday), with an additional evening ceremony on the Monday and the Tuesday.
All academic staff members are encouraged to attend Graduation ceremonies as part of the Academic Procession to share in the success of their graduates.
Registration for the Academic Procession
Registration via the online Registration Form is now open and can be made via the link below. Just complete the Registration Form with all of your details.
If you have any special requirements (eg disabled access), please note these in the Comments section at the end of the Registration Form. We're also happy to accommodate (where possible) those staff members who have family and/or friends graduation and who would like to be seated on the "student" side of the stage.

For a complete list of degrees being awarded at each ceremony, please see the following link.
Academic dress for the Academic Procession
There is a section on the Registration Form to indicate if you need either UOW or non-UOW academic dress supplied.
If you are a University of Wollongong graduate, the correct UOW academic dress for your degree can be ordered. If you graduated from another university, there are a limited number of generic black gowns, hoods and trenchers available. However we cannot guarantee the exact dress for your degree. If you wish to wear the specific academic dress from the university you graduated from, you should contact their Graduation Office as soon as possible to arrange for academic dress hire.
Academic dress will be available from the Gowning Room (Room 36.305 in the Admin Building) on the day/days you have elected to attend Academic Procession. Please note that, unless the Registration Form is completed correctly and returned by the deadline, academic dress cannot be supplied on the day.
We are presently unable to automatically complete your Registration Form with academic dress details you may have supplied for previous processions. However, if you can't remember your details and were involved in previous processions, contact the Academic Procession Coordinator who can look these up you.
What to do on the day
Please ensure you arrive at the Gowning Room (Room 36.305) at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the ceremony and make yourself known to the Procession Coordinators, who will be on hand to allocate academic dress, booklets and mark attendance.
You will need to allow an additional 15 minutes if you will be putting on academic dress.
Coats and jackets can be left in the Gowning Room but we do not recommend leaving any valuables such as wallets or phones as we cannot guarantee the security of the room.
The Academic Procession assembles in the forecourt of Building 36 at least 20 minutes before the start of each ceremony. The Procession Coordinators do a final attendance check 15 minutes prior to the ceremony and advise Graduation staff in the Hall of any changes to seating on the stage.
The Academic Procession departs Building 36 no later than 10 minutes before the ceremony commences.
If you borrow academic dress, you will need to return this to the Gowning Room after the ceremony and sign that you have returned it. If you are attending consecutive ceremonies you may retain your academic dress between ceremonies. If you would like to have your academic dress for a bit longer to have photos with students, please let the Procession Coordinators know; usually this will not be a problem.
Timing of the ceremonies
Morning ceremonies start at 9:45am. You need to arrive by 9:15am, or 9am if putting on academic dress.
Afternoon ceremonies start at 2:30pm. You need to arrive by 2pm, or 1:45pm if putting on academic dress.
Evening ceremonies start at 7:00pm. You need to arrive by 6:30pm, or 6:15pm if putting on academic dress.
