Keiraview Accommodation hosts YHA Managers Meeting
A group of regional YHA managers met in Wollongong on Wednesday 18th March, following an overnight stay at Keiraview Accommodation/Wollongong YHA (part of Keiraville accommodation). Keiraview is one of the student residences at UOW and also provides commercial backpacker accommodation. It a member of YHA, part of the 120-hostel strong YHA network around Australia, and 4000 hostels around the world.
The managers come together annually as the Sydney Surrounds group - hostels that surround Sydney and are all within a couple of hours of the city. Often the first stop as international backpackers start their travels around Australia, these hostels range from the small ecohostel at Hawkesbury Heights in the Blue Mountains, through to a lodge in Kuring-gai Chase National Park with ferry access, to the larger YHAs in heritage buildings in Katoomba and Newcastle. Managers from the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and Bundanoon made up the rest of the group along with Mary Sparks, Manager of Wollongong YHA.
The meeting took place at Campus East and covered a range of market intelligence and marketing initiatives as well as swapping of news and information between the hostels. The group gathered the night before in Wollongong and enjoyed a pleasant dinner down by the harbour.
Keiraview Accommodation hosts a number of groups throughout the year. While most people know Keiraview as a student residence, it also operates as commercial motel and has YHA backpacker accommodation. Excellent discounts are available to UOW staff and relatives, alumni, visiting academics and other UOW associates.
