International House alumni come back for formal dinner
The International House formal this year marked the beginning of fundraising for International House. An annual event, the formal gives students a chance to unwind and recognise outstanding students for various achievements throughout the year. This year’s event was held at the Portofino Function Centre and for the first time, was attended by four International House alumni who donated money through sponsored awards. They were:
Jacques Laurent Ng Lan Kong, Lend Lease, Sydney, sponsored the Local Community Engagement Award - recipient Tessa Muskett
Greg Blundell, Guideline Engineering, Canberra, sponsored the Academic Excellence Award - recipient Rachel Webb
Christopher Sloan, Department of Education, Victoria, sponsored the Concordia Award - recipient Swati Dharmaraj
Damien Bond, Department of Fisheries in Canberra, sponsored the Character and Service Award - recipient Matthew Holmes
“We are always delighted to keep in touch with our International House alumni and to have alumni involvement at our formal shows the ongoing ties that students have to International House. Each of these alumni not only donated money towards an award, they gave up their time to attend, with Christopher Sloan travelling up from Melbourne. We are extremely grateful for their generosity,” said Lindsay Oades, Student Residence Manager, International House.
International House has a commitment to engaging with alumni. The recent International House formal marks the beginning of strengthening these ties with alumni and launching a major International House Fundraising appeal. The appeal will coincide with the International Houses Worldwide conference to be held in Australia in January, with a component of the conference being held at International House Wollongong on 15 – 16 January 2009.
