Alumni Engagement
International House has a commitment to engaging alumni who play a key role in the ongoing development of the International House vision: Global well-being starts here. Alumni are actively involved in a number of initiatives held by International House and often come back to attend events such as the International House formal where alumni are invited to present prizes to current students.
Postcards From the Globe
The opening of Postcards from the Globe, a donor recognition wall, marked an important milestone in International House alumni engagement, bringing together recognition of all those who have lived at International House over 29 years, and those who have donated to give opportunities for new students to enjoy an international learning experience. The wall contains plaques designed to look like postcards, which include a personal message from alumni donors and their national flag in place of a stamp. There is also a large sculpture of the globe, which is a symbol of the International House mission: “Global Wellbeing Starts Here!” Students are encouraged to spin the globe sculpture and “make a wish” in the name of global wellbeing.
International House turns 30
Hard to believe, but almost 30 years ago, International House became the *first University of Wollongong student residence. In 2010 International House will stage a calendar of events to celebrate 30 years, culminating in a reunion. We look forward to welcoming everyone back.
Register your interest to stay informed with events and activities to commemorate the anniversary.
You probably have your own collection of memories from your time at International House. We’d love to hear from you with any stories, pictures or other noteworthy memorabilia. Please email us at edwina@uow.edu.au and your story may be posted to the memorabilia website.
Launch of International House Global Wellbeing Residential scholarships
To mark this important milestone International House is launching the ‘International House Global Wellbeing Residential scholarships’.
With your help and that of your fellow alumni, International House aims to raise $5,000 by the end of 2009. This will allow us to offer 5x $1,000 residential scholarships to our residents who have demonstrated intercultural leadership and embody our goal of fostering intercultural friendship and understanding.
