About AusAID Scholarships

AusAID Scholarships are an Australian Government initiative designed to promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia and the global community.

AusAID scholarships consist of the Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) and the Australian Leadership Awards Scholarship (ALAS).

These are long term training scholarships to 'develop the capacity and leadership skills of awardees so that they can contribute to development in their home country and to build people to people linkages at the individual, institutional and country levels' open to students from AusAID partner countries.

The University of Wollongong has a contract to administer these scholarships. It is the responsibility of the AusAID Officer in the Academic Registrar's Division to manage this contract and monitor and assist AusAID students on campus.

For further information on the AusAID program, please see Australian Awards.

AusAID Scholarships Conditions

AusAID scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education Institution.

All students must comply with the conditions of their contract and their relevant handbook. The most significant condition relating to the award is that students are required to return to their country of citizenship for at least two years after completing their scholarship, to contribute to the economic and social development of their country.
