Supplementary Assessment
If you have failed a subject but were close to passing, your faculty may offer you a second chance to pass the subject.
Offers
You cannot ask for or apply for a supplementary assessment, but must wait to see if you are offered one by the faculty. The decision about whether to offer you a supplementary assessment will be based on the following:
- your demonstrated engagement with the subject
- whether you have attempted all assessment tasks for the subject
- whether there is evidence that your performance improved during the session
- how close you were to passing the subject
- your overall academic performance, and
- whether your performance demonstrates to the subject coordinator that you could pass the subject if given the opportunity to do a supplementary assessment.
Supplementary assessment offers will be sent to students by SOLS mail at the time final subject results are released. The supplementary assessment offer will expire within 3 days, so make sure you check your results as soon as they are released, especially if you think you might have failed a subject.
Results
In most cases your supplementary exam will be conducted by ARD. In this case you will receive a withheld - WS - grade for the subject.
In some circumstances the faculty may decide to conduct the supplementary assessment. If this is the case you will receive a withheld - WH - grade and the faculty will contact you directly with details of the assessment.
Your final mark and grade will be reviewed once you have completed the supplementary assessment. If you complete the supplementary assessment item and pass the subject, you will be awarded a mark of 50% (and no more than 50%) and a grade of Pass Supplementary (PS).
