A full-time study load is an enrolment in 4 x 6cp subjects in both Autumn and Spring Sessions, equalling 48cp in one year.
Should you choose to enrol in less subjects, please ensure that you are aware this may delay your graduation and you should speak with the Academic Program Director (APD) of your course. Our Heads of Students (HoSts) can also work with you with advice on progressing through your course.
First year 100-level chemistry subjects are core (compulsory) in many degrees in the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health at UOW.

- If you attempted HSC chemistry and achieved a grade ≥ 65% (or equivalent) you will need to enrol in:
- Autumn session: CHEM101 Chemistry 1A: Introductory Physical and General Chemistry
- Spring session: CHEM102 Chemistry 1B: Structure and Reactivity of Molecules of Life
- If you have not completed HSC chemistry or you did complete HSC chemistry but achieved a mark of <65% (or equivalent) you will need to enrol in:
- Autumn session: CHEM104 Foundation Chemistry: Properties of Matter
- Spring session: CHEM105 Foundation Chemistry: Reactions and Structures
Please note that with both options, these subjects only run once per year in the session indicated. In addition, the Autumn Session subject MUST be completed, and passed, prior to undertaking the Spring Session subject. I.e. the Autumn Session chemistry subject is a pre-requisite for the Spring Session chemistry subject.
