How do I apply?
Coursework programs
1. Select your program
You can discuss your program of study with the Head of Academic Unit, Faculty Postgraduate Coordinator or supervisor, or contact UniAdvice.
In the Faculty of Creative Arts, applicants can discuss their program of study at an interview.
2. Apply for Admission
There are a number of ways to apply for a postgraduate program at the University of Wollongong.
All applicants for Undergraduate and Postgraduate coursework degrees (excluding Creative Arts programs, Dean’s Scholars, Honours, and the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery) can apply online at UOWApplyOnline. UOWApplyOnline is an easy process designed for you to submit your application from anywhere in the world. You can save your application at any point and come back to complete it later.
In order to submit your application, you will be required to attach supporting documentation, including your certificate of English proficiency (if applicable) and academic qualifications obtained or currently being undertaken.
A postgraduate coursework application form can also be found online. If you would prefer a hardcopy application form these can be obtained from the UniAdvice office.
The postgraduate coursework application form provides information regarding the documents that you will need to supply. The application must be submitted to UniAdvice for processing as soon as possible.
Supporting Documentation
You are required to submit supporting documentation when applying to the University. Additional supporting documentation is required for the following courses:
- Graduate Diploma in Education
- Graduate Diploma in Adult Education and Training
- Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
- Graduate Certificate in Business Administration
- Master of Business Administration
- Master of Journalism
- Master of Forensic Accounting
- Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology
- All Creative Arts degrees

English Language Requirements
If you are a domestic student and English is not your first language, you are required to provide evidence of satisfying the University's English language requirements as listed on the International Students site. For detailed information on these requirements please visit the International Students site.
If you have completed an academic qualification conducted entirely in English within the last two years, in a country where English is the official language, you may meet the University’s English language requirements. For further information about these requirements can be found online.
Research programs
1. Find a Supervisor and an academic unit
Your first step is to determine your preferred field of study and find the Faculty or Academic Unit that will best meet your requirements. You are encouraged to visit the staff web pages of each Faculty to identify a potential supervisor who matches your area of research interest. You may contact a potential supervisor to discuss your project prior to applying for admission.
2. Find a Research Topic
You should discuss a broad plan for your research topic with the Head of Academic Unit, Postgraduate Coordinator or your possible supervisor. Your thesis topic will typically become better defined as your research progresses. You are required to nominate a working title at the beginning of your enrolment but may change this with the approval of the Academic Unit.
3. Apply for Admission
The application form for research programs can be found online. Additional forms can be download from here or are available from the UniAdvice office.
The form provides information regarding the documents that you will need to supply. The application form must be submitted to UniAdvice for processing and applicants should be aware that Postgraduate Research applications can take longer to process, as they need to be assessed by the relevant Faculty.
Supporting documentation
All applicants must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. Refer to the Postgraduate Application Form for information about this requirement.
Applicants will also need to provide evidence of English proficiency (for example, the IELTS Test Report Form; or the TOEFL Official Score Report*) if their undergraduate studies were completed in a language other than English, or in a country where English is not the first language. Creative Arts applicants may be required to submit documentation or portfolio materials as part of their application. Further information is included in the Faculty of Creative Arts webpage.

4. Apply for a Scholarship

Research Proposal Presentation
All research students are required to present a formal research proposal in their first year of thesis work. The purpose of the research proposal is to demonstrate an understanding of the thesis topic and proposed methodology, including time-lines.

Alternative Entry Requirements
Applicants for a Masters by Research or Doctoral program who do not have the equivalent of an Australian Honours Bachelor degree at the required standard may still be considered for entry. It may be necessary for those applicants to complete additional preliminary study within a Masters by Research or Doctoral program.

What happens after I have made an application?
Within approximately six weeks of submitting your application you will receive:
- an Offer of Admission, if successful*
- information about alternative entry paths, if appropriate.
Consideration of applications to the Faculty of Creative Arts may take slightly longer as applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview after applications are reviewed.
If you have any conditions noted in your Offer of Admission, you will also need to satisfy these conditions prior to enrolment.
How to Defer
If you wish to defer a place in a program, you must apply in writing to UniAdvice at the University of Wollongong for approval.

Completing the Application Form
Complete one of the Application Forms that are available online. It is important to read all of this section before commencing the form.
Certification of documents
Original or certified copies of academic records, marksheets or transcripts for studies previously undertaken must be provided with this application. Official certified English translations are also required for documents in another language. The transcript must show all subjects undertaken, grades obtained (including failures) and stages reached or qualifications gained. Evidence of graduate status should indicate that the academic requirements of the course have been completed or that the award has been conferred.
Domestic Applicants
A photocopied document must be certified as a true copy of the original by anyone who is currently employed as:
- an authorised officer in the admissions office at any tertiary institution
- Members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia or the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, or the National Institute of Accountants or the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants or Registered Tax Agents.
- Bank Branch Managers excluding bank travel centres
- Barristers, solicitors or patent attorney
- Police Officer of the rank of Sergeant or above
- Post Office Manager
- Principal of either an Australian high or primary school
- A Justice of the Peace
The person certifying the photocopies must:

And sign the document and print the following details: name; address; contact telephone number; profession or occupation; date verified.
Affix the official stamp or seal of the verifiers organisation on the copy, if the organisation has such a stamp. Applications will be held on file for a period of no longer than 12 months.
Special requirements
Important
To assist with the assessment of your application for entry to those postgraduate courses listed below, you are required to submit documents additional to standard information such as certified transcripts of academic results and English language test results. If this additional information is not supplied then your application will NOT be assessed.
Faculty of Creative Arts Applications
Please note that each course of study requires supporting material to be submitted with the application which is used to determine an applicants suitability. Please refer to the Creative Arts Postgraduate Studies brochure and ensure that all information, documentation, portfolio material and proposal is enclosed. Honours applications must include a proposal for both their Honours thesis and creative project (at least 500 words each).
DBA Application
DBA Applications must provide an outline of professional experience and demonstrate the ability to access appropriate industry sectors to meet research requirements. Applicants will also be required to attend an interview and submit a 2000 word research proposal.
Special requirements for nominated postgraduate coursework courses
Graduate Diploma in Education
A short statement explaining your interest in doing the Graduate Diploma in Education. Also include an outline of any previous formal or informal experience you may have in teaching.
In addition to the above requirements you MUST also provide the following:
- your first and second preference for your proposed teaching methods (eg Primary, ESL, History/English, Science, etc.)
- a letter of approval from the Faculty of Education.
Graduate Diploma in Adult Education
A statement explaining:
- your present and past responsibilities related to education and training
- why you wish to complete the Graduate Diploma in Adult Education and Training.
Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
For graduates of tertiary law courses other than the University of Wollongong, it will be necessary to have the equivalent studies in legal ethics, legal skills training, and professional experience as those acquired by a Wollongong graduate. Refer to the Faculty of Law Practical Training Unit for details before lodging this application. It is particularly important for international applicants to contact the faculty to discuss the requisites of the course.
Master of Forensic Accounting
If you are a member of the CPA Australia, please include a statement quoting your membership number. Please also indicate if you agree to your enrolment being communicated to CPA Australia.
Master of Journalism/Graduate Certificate in Multicultural Journalism
Applicants are required to provide a sample of their work published in the print or electronic media. Those who cannot provide samples of such work are required to submit a 750-word opinion article on the topic: Journalists - Who Are they Really?.
Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology
Applicants MUST indicate on the postgraduate application form whether they intend to study on a full-time or part-time basis.
IMPORTANT: You will need to check the Psychology Department's website for information about the progress of your application which will be published early in December. It will be in a form that protects your identity.
At that time you will be required to confirm online, or by email, that you still wish a place to be kept for you and that you want the Psychology Department to recommend to the university that you be officially offered a place. You will also be informed about the available Graduate Diploma research projects for the following year, and asked to start the process of choosing your supervisor.
Non UOW applicants will need to indicate on the postgraduate application form whether their degree is complete and enclose a transcript of their university results achieved to date. Any results received following submission of an application will need to be forwarded to the Psychology Department immediately. You can contact the Psychology Dept via email.
Nutrition & Dietetics, Exercise Science, Rehabilitation and some Nursing degrees
The NSW Health Department requires all staff, including students undertaking clinical placements, in positions dealing with children and patients vulnerable by reason of health status to undergo a criminal record clearance prior to employment or placement in any capacity in the NSW Health System. This clearance will be conducted by the NSW Police Service and will be coordinated by NSW Health following enrolment. International students are required to provide an official criminal record clearance, in English, from their home country PRIOR to their arrival in Australia.
Once enrolled, nursing students will be required to determine their immunity status for a number of infectious diseases. Students MAY need to undertake a course of vaccinations.
Graduate Certificate of Business Administration / Master of Business Administration
Applicants must show evidence of two-years' full-time relevant professional, supervisory or management experience as outlined in Section 5 of the Postgraduate Coursework Application Form.
Relevant professional experience must be supervisory/managerial in nature.
Master of Business Coaching
All applicants will need to attend an interview with the course coordinator.

1. Change of Name
If you have changed your name since undertaking matriculation or tertiary level examinations, or if any of your documents show a name which is different from the one that you have used on this application form, then you must present certified documentary evidence of the change (marriage certificate,
deed poll, statutory declaration).
