Offshore Programs

A strong partnership between the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and the University of Wollongong (UOW) has commenced in 2005 focusing on the delivery of world class Information and Communication Technology (ICT) degree programs which are highly relevant to industry in Singapore, Australia and internationally:

  • Bachelor of Information Technology (Computing)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Multimedia & Game Development)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Digital Systems Security)

UOW has a very strong research focus that has allowed the University to develop an international reputation for its applied research, often in partnership with industry and government. For example, UOW working hand in hand with SIM, has very quickly established themselves in Singapore as leading drivers within the ICT sector with strong connections to both government authorities like the INFOCOMM Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and to leading private sector multinationals like Motorola, Hewlett Packard, Oracle and Apple. Students benefit from having direct access to academic staff who are internationally acclaimed as leaders in some of the most dynamic fields of computer science and information technology, including Information Security, Multimedia and Game Development.

The result is that students are equipped with core attributes and problem solving skills via the UOW-SIM delivered Programs that set them apart from other degrees and Universities. Employers within Singapore, Australia and the world are quickly seeing the results of this effective collaboration. For example, Sean Jenkins a computer science graduate is now Development & Test Manager for Microsoft Games Studios.

Singaporean Student Experiences

A unique feature of UOW is that our leading researchers are involved in teaching at all levels, including in bachelors degrees. Students are taught by the researchers who are working with industry and corporate leaders in their field. To see how one of our Singaporean students is taking advantage of these connections, click here

UOW is one of the most international universities in Australia – the 4,000 international students on campus represent more than 20% of the total student population. All facilities are on a single campus, minutes from the city. Wollongong is a multicultural population with facilities catering to students from Singapore, including Asian grocery stores and restaurants reflecting the cuisine of the city’s many cultures. The ideal location offers access to the cosmopolitan lifestyles of both Wollongong and Sydney.

The Temasek – Singapore Students Society was formed in the early 1990s. The name 'Temasek' was derived from the name of old Singapore. Although it is a Singaporean students' club, its members consists of both Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans. The Society organises activities on and off-campus throughout the year, promoting cultural, sporting and recreational activities for students.
