What excited you most about coming to uni?
Being able to complete subjects that I was interested in, and also studying in an environment where there is a wide range of activities that you can participate in.
Have you faced any unexpected challenges?
As a first year student, you face the challenges of learning how to deal with the academic aspects of Uni, which initially is challenging, but once you complete your first exam and assignment you know what to expect. Also, time is a challenge, as you only have 13 weeks of class to cram in a whole textbook, so you really need to be time conscious.
Have you had any pleasant surprises?
I was surprised upon enrolling at how relaxed the Wollongong campus is and also the variety of activities you can participate in. I was also surprised at how helpful your lecturers and tutors are if you need help with understanding coursework and assignments.
When did you know that you wanted to come to UOW?
I have always known that I wanted to study at UOW as it is my local uni and due to its 5 star ratings in the Good Universities Guide it would be pointless for me to travel every day to Sydney when I could get an equal experience at UOW.
What do you like best at UOW? Why?
There are two things that I like best at UOW- firstly, I love the campus itself and how well maintained the grounds are, and also I love the student diversity- people come from not only around Australia but also around the world to study at UOW and this offers a great networking experience.
If you had to give somebody one reason—and one only—to study at UOW, what would it be?
Due to the high standards of quality teaching and also UOW’s excellent reputation, a UOW degree is held very highly in the minds of prospective employers, which gives you a distinct advantage when applying for a position over other University graduates.
What do you like best about Wollongong?
As I have lived in Wollongong for most of my life, I have experienced many different aspects of the region. Wollongong is a great place to live and study as it has a perfect balance between city hustle and bustle and also living in the country, and it is one of only a few places in Australia where you can go to all of the world renowned beaches during your lunchbreak and be back in time for the start of your next class. Wollongong also offers a great nightlife scene, and during the day there is a wide variety of things to do from skydiving and hang-gliding to lazing on the beach or going out for lunch with friends.
Why did you choose your particular degree?
I chose my particular degree as I have always had a keen interest in the business sector and the Bachelor of Commerce degree accommodated for all of my academic needs.
What kind of career might you like to pursue after graduation?
As my career ambition is to become a CEO in the corporate arena, I am planning on pursuing a career within the management consultancy sector or through the booming procurement sector.
If you participate in any extracurricular activities, how have they impacted on your experience at UOW?
I am a competitive soccer and futsal player, which allows me to unwind after a hard week at Uni, and I also have had the privilege of being a Youth Advisor to a Board of Directors where I had direct insight into the corporate world, and I also have a part-time job, which helps me relate what I am being taught to a real life situation.
What activities are you involved in on-campus?
I am involved with lunch time sports and am planning to represent UOW at the Uni Games in the next year. I also participate in random activities such as competitions run by various clubs and societies and lunchtimes etc.
